Hopi Ear Candles

*3 sessions are recommended within a short period of time (10/14 days) for the best results

Hopi Ear Candling, or Thermo Auricular Therapy as it is also known, can be used to treat many conditions of the ear, nose and throat area.

Hopi Ear Candling originated from the Native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona. Hopi means peaceful people. They used candles in medicinal ceremonies and initiations to clear negative energies from the head and aura.

The candles can be used today as a relaxing treatment to ease away the stresses of our Western culture and to address a number of problems relating to the ear, neck and face areas.

This creates a slight under pressure (the chimney effect) inside the ear candle and a vibration of the rising air column through the natural movement of the flame serve to gentle massage the eardrum and auditory canal. Once the candle is placed in the ear it forms a seal which enables wax and other impurities to be drawn out of the ear. The treatment is followed by a relaxing pressure point facial massage.

The Hopi Ear Candles used in my treatment sessions are Biosun candles. These are one of the only EU standard candles on the market. They are specially designed with a safety filter and a red line marked on them to designate the maximum burn level. Biosun candles are made from linen, pure beeswax, honey extract, and essential oil of St John’s wort, chamomile and sage.

If you are in doubt about any of these conditions or problems you have with your ear you must consult your GP before attending a treatment.

What happens during a treatment?

Before the treatment starts, we will have a consultation to discuss your ear conditions and your medical history. You will then be asked to lie on our side on my couch and a candle is placed in your ear and lit (this lasts approximately 10 minutes), your ear is then cleaned. You will asked to turnover onto your other side and a candle is placed in your other ear and lit. This ear will then be cleaned once the candle has burnt down sufficiently. You will then be asked to lie on your back whilst a facial massage will take place, this helps with sinus drainage and also to balance your energy. After the treatment you will asked to drink a glass of water to rehydrate you. The candles are then examined to identify problems with your ears and ascertain whether further treatments are recommended.
